Sony Product Specialist, Tom Crocker, talks about the Sony PMW-F5, PMW-F55, and the codecs supported by these cameras.
A new codec, XAVC, which can recorded at HD, 2K, or 4K is supported, along with XDCAM at 50mbps, and RAW – with the F55 to the latest SxS cards and with the F5 to an external recorder.
Also featured on both the PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 is S-Log 2. This enables images to be recorded designed to give a wide dynamic range, without the overheads of RAW in terms of storage requirements.
