BulletProof v1.0 is now available and can be purchased by visiting www.redgiant.com. BulletProof is a complete footage prep and delivery solution that simplifies the tedious tasks facing filmmakers every day on set. Bridging the gap between camera and editor, BulletProof combines all backup, organization, color and delivery tasks while handling footage from multiple cameras and media cards.

Red Giant also announced it is launching two new product suites for filmmakers: Red Giant Shooter Suite, and Red Giant Color Suite replacing the Magic Bullet Suite product. The Shooter Suite includes several tools ideally suited for filmmakers – including BulletProof and PluralEyes – while the Color Suite contains six essential applications for color grading – including Magic Bullet Looks and Colorista II.

Since the release of the BulletProof public beta, Red Giant has embraced the input from users to help fine tune the version 1.0 product features. Renowned editor, filmmaker, and professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, Norman Hollyn has also participated in the public beta process.

“The irony of modern production is that, as the tools have gotten more accessible and easy to use, the support for filmmakers has gotten more complicated. Codecs, multiple distribution formats, an increase in camera formats, requirements among NLE’s — everything has conspired to make the advantages of easy-to-access filmmaking, harder to work with,” said Hollyn. “I think Bulletproof will help address an important part of that complexity — the world of moving the footage from the set to the editing room.”

Regarding the BulletProof workflow, Hollyn added “BulletProof has been very easy to learn and it adapts well to our needs. I particularly like its intuitive interface and its export functions. The DIT functions, including the organizing capabilities and metadata generation, have proven to be very intelligently designed.”

The BulletProof workflow is presented in a series of five views, arranged in a left-to-right flow that mirrors what filmmakers do on set every day.

  • Import: Offload Your Files. Select clips or whole cards and import into a catalog with backup to multiple destinations for safety.

  • Organize: Organize Your Files. View the whole catalog, and sort clips with folders and playlists with essential tools for flagging, sorting and searching for clips.

  • Review: Review Your Files. Play individual clips to check their color, and focus with support for JKL keyboard control for playback and marker support.

  • Refine: Edit Color and Metadata. Apply first-pass color adjustments and add metadata about the shoot for export to popular editing tool through XML.

  • Export: Deliver Your Files. Queue and export the clips with embedded timecode and metadata without transcoding, or as ProRes or web formats.

A list of Canon, Nikon and GoPro cameras and codec/format supported in BulletProof v1.0 is available here www.redgiant.com/products/all/bulletproof/compatibility/. Additional camera support will be added as free updates for BulletProof customers, and will be announced as they are released.
